Kindness is clarity; niceness is evasion
distinction — attributed to Carina Bauer
Niceness avoids hard conversations to keep things smooth. Kindness walks into them — calmly, cleanly, with care. The two look similar from outside but produce opposite cultures: one of quiet resentment, one of trust.
Bauer draws this line sharply in her own leadership at IMEX, sitting beside team members who stumble rather than above them, and saying things like: "You got it wrong. But you made the call. That matters more."
