Calvert's Studio 54 observation is structural, not nostalgic. The threshold itself was the designed experience: the selection from the line, the crossing of the door, the shift that happened once you were inside. She noted that once through, everyone was welcome. The architecture of arrival determined the social logic of the space. She did not have the vocabulary of event design at the time, but she catalogued the mechanism. Her subsequent career translates this into a professional obligation: the design of how people enter, how they are received, and what they feel at the moment of crossing the threshold shapes the entire gathering that follows.
