Taste markets are not commodity markets
distinction — attributed to Andrew Garcia
The chair a planner selects is not interchangeable with every other chair. It is a design decision, a brand signal, and an aesthetic statement about what the gathering is trying to be, and the rental company owner who sources and deploys it is performing a curatorial function, not a logistical one. Platforms serving taste markets require different instincts than platforms serving commodity markets, and conflating the two produces products that technically work and commercially miss.
