Shift the room from FOMO to LOMO.
technique — attributed to Paul Bulencea & Claus Raasted
Paul Bulencea names the move explicitly. Move people from fear of missing out to love of missing out. The College runs so many parallel tracks that no participant can attend everything, which would produce anxiety in a conference where each session feels like the one you cannot miss. The team reframes the abundance as a gift. You will miss things. The thing you miss might be the thing the person next to you needed. The thing you choose instead is the thing you needed. The permission to opt out without social consequence is part of the experience, not a workaround for it.
For multi-track conferences and retreats where participants visibly struggle with choosing between simultaneous sessions. The reframe has to be communicated explicitly at the opening.
