A great event is a Venn diagram; not everyone responds to every aspect.
principle — attributed to J.B. Miller
Miller's framing of audience response is mature and operational. A great event works something like a Venn diagram. Something for everyone, but not everybody resonates with every aspect. A certain percentage responds strongly to one aspect; others to a different aspect. The team programs so that the majority of the event hits the right notes for the majority of attendees, while still feeling new and different to all. The reframe matters because it inverts the perfectionist instinct that says every moment should land for every attendee. That target is impossible. The realistic target is overlapping satisfaction across segments, which the Venn diagram metaphor describes operationally.
For event producers and corporate event leads thinking about how to plan for mixed audiences. The principle is most useful as a corrective when the team has been trying to design every element to land with every attendee.
