Pivot to the smaller audience that needs the deeper work.
principle — attributed to Julius Solaris
Solaris has been clear about what comes next. When he writes about intellectual-philosophical work in his newsletter, the audience that comes with him is roughly one-tenth the size of the audience that comes for tactical advice. He has counted. The corporate event marketers who open every Tuesday morning open because they have a quota to hit and a sponsor to renew. The thinkers among them are a remnant. He is going to write for the smaller audience anyway. The operator serves the audience that exists. The student serves the work that matters, even when nine-tenths of the audience walks out. The pivot is not retirement. It is the student declaring he is ready for the deeper curriculum.
For independent publishers, founders, and operators considering a pivot toward less commercial but more meaningful work. The principle is most useful as a frame when the operator has the operational base to absorb the audience cost and still chooses depth.
