Peck''s edge is often described as instinct. It is not. As a twenty-year-old summer-camp color war general she won not because she had the best athletes but because she had spent the summer noticing who could paint, who could sing, who could lead, and logging it. The edge is observation, catalogued and recallable. Instinct is unconscious. Peck''s skill is the opposite: she has been paying attention on purpose for decades.
