Belonging is structural, not decorative.
principle — attributed to Andrew Roby
The mistake is treating belonging as a symbolic gesture. A tagline. A values statement on the website. The room either produces it or does not, and the production happens through specific structural choices: who staffs the registration desk, what imagery a guest sees on the way in, which vendors were hired, whose languages appear in the welcome message. The room where people feel welcome rarely happens by accident.
The foundational reframing for any organizer treating belonging as marketing rather than architecture.
